This 10 day guided New Zealand adventure tour is one of our most popular tours and follows the same South Island route as our legendary NZ Adrenalin trip. We begin in Christchurch and finish in Queenstown, taking in Methven, Peel Forest, Lake Tekapo, Lake Wanaka, Mt Aspiring National Park, Lake Te Anau and Milford Sound in Fiordland along the way for a truly spectacular route of the South Island.
This trip has been carefully designed to include amazing must-do adventures and is balanced with stunning New Zealand scenery and free time in your schedule to enjoy the beautiful mountain towns of Wanaka and Queenstown. We have also planned the trip to minimise travelling times and include modern comfortable ensuite accommodation as well as great food throughout to keep you energised and rested for your next big adventure.
We include lots of great activities including multiple hikes, white water rafting, ziplining, jet boating, sea kayaking and mountain biking, and the free time in the itinerary allows you to either relax and take it easy, or speak to your guide and add additional adventure or adrenalin activities as you go.
Our NZ Adventure and NZ Adrenalin tours run together in tandem for the full 10 days. This means that couples, friends and groups who have different appetites of adventure and adrenalin can tour together and each have the perfect customised adventure tour experience.

Itinerary
After group introductions and a trip briefing we head directly to the Christchurch Adventure Park in the Port Hills for an awesome 4 line zip adventure which has both the highest (at 150 metres) and the longest (just over 1 Kilometre) ziplines in New Zealand. This course is dual lined so great for racing your mates and also offers spectacular views over the forests of Victoria Park, Christchurch City and towards the mighty Southern Alps.
After lunch we head inland and to a secret hiking spot with great waterfalls, rich history and impressive panoramas of the Canterbury Plains before a final stop at the stunning Rakaia Gorge on our way into Methven.
Taking the Inland Scenic Route through the Canterbury Plains and alongside the foothills of the Southern Alps we head through Peel Forest and into the hills for an exhilarating white water rafting on the Rangitata River.
We think this is the best and most extreme white-water rafting available in New Zealand where you will experience the longest sections of grade 5 rapids in the country at all water levels.
Fed by the enormous catchment of the Upper Rangitata Basin, this massive volume of water winds its way down the valley and where the river is wide and calm in the initial stages, you receive a full safety brief and on water training from your professional guide.
By the time you reach the rip-roaring grade 5 section where the gorge narrows to a pinch and the action escalates, you're fully prepared and ready for what lies ahead!
All rafts stop before these grade 5 rapid sections which offers the chance to to take a look and see what's ahead, the option is always there to walk around this section if you prefer!
Once off the river we'll head to our destination for the evening Lake Tekapo which is a major highlight of any South Island tour. Lake Tekapo is famed both for its fabulous Turquoise colour with picture perfect views during the day, and with very limited light pollution has been recognised as an International Dark Sky reserve and one of the world's best places for stargazing.
Continuing South through the MacKenzie High Country we take in more picture perfect views across Lake Pukaki as we journey into the heart of the Southern Alps for breathtaking hiking options amongst giants in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park. This National Park offers something for everyone with incredibly scenic valley walks, hikes up to stunning Glacier lookouts and for the ultimate experience, a thrilling guided Heli Hike on the Tasman Glacier to safely explore natural features such as beautiful Blue ice caverns.

This afternoon we travel over the Lindis Pass and to our destination Lake Wanaka in the heart of New Zealand's Southern Lakes themselves.
This morning we get stuck into a morning of rock climbing. Wanaka is renowned for its incredible bluffs and crags and as such is one of the top places to climb in New Zealand and this activity can cater for experienced climbers and beginners alike.
For those who are new to this environment today will provide you with the basics of climbing as well as give you confidence and an overall impression of what this exciting sport is all about.
Receive instruction on the equipment involved, its proper use and care, knots, basic climbing concepts such as belaying (a climber's safety system), rope handling and technique. Then it's time to put it all together and spend the rest of the day climbing and abseiling on a top rope format.
If you have some good experience and depending on your goals, we can cover skills such as lead climbing, multi-pitch, anchors, rope management and advanced climbing techniques. If you simply want to climb then we can just go hard out on the areas "classic climbs".
After lunch you have a free afternoon to explore this beautiful lakeside location.
We depart Wanaka late morning driving through the historic Cardona valley and over the famed Crown Range to Queenstown, home of Adventure Junkies and the adventure capital of the world.
After lunch your afternoon is free to explore this unique mountain town and your guide will help you make the most of your time here. There are seemingly unlimited options for your free time here with Queenstown being a mecca for downhill and cross country mountain biking trails, epic day hikes in the mountains, hang gliding and paragliding from the local peaks, bungy jumping and canyon swinging (naturally!), luge riding accessed from the Skyline gondola, submersible shark rides, the world's only commercial jet sprint experience, incredible and unique off-roading, quad biking, river surfing, skydiving, helicopter flights and much, much more.
Queenstown is also a big bucket list destination for fans of Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit with guided tours available that take in classic filming locations, plus we have world famous vineyards with cellar doors for tastings and platters in the Gibbston Valley right here on our doorstep!
Today is a full free day and your guide is on hand to assist in organising additional adventure and adrenalin activities, sightseeing tours, hikes, spa days or wine tours so that you can really maximise your time in this truly special place.
Today we leave Queenstown, and if you haven't summoned up the courage already it's not too late to face your fears and upgrade to an optional jump from either the legendary Kawarau Bungy Bridge, the world's first ever bungy site, take on the mighty the 134m Nevis Bungy or even the Nevis Swing, the world's highest swing!!
After lunch we drive to picturesque Lake Te Anau which serves at the gateway to Fiordland National Park and your base for the next two nights. Here there is time to take in some big mountain and Lake views before making preparations for Sea Kayaking in Fiordland National Park the following day.
Lake Te Anau is also home to numerous cave systems and there is an opportunity to take in an optional lake cruise and check out some Glowworms this evening.
This morning you'll head deep into Fiordland National Park for a full day and to one of New Zealand's most amazing natural wonders for a Milford Sound Sea Kayaking adventure. Spectacular does not come close to describing both the drive from Te Anau on the Milford Road drive nor the Fiord of Milford Sound itself which has been coined as the eighth wonder of the world.
Whilst paddling amongst giants prepare to be amazed by truly awe inspiring natural beauty which includes sheer towering peaks, hanging valleys, thundering waterfalls and the opportunity to see NZ fur seals, dolphins and the beautiful Fiordland crested penguin.
This morning we return to Queenstown where you'll spend the 4-5 hours riding on the incredible Queenstown Trail which offers over 130km's of stunning off-road trails.
Using a dedicated bike trailer we provide "bike taxi" services and shuttle you between the very best sections of the trail that criss-cross sparkling rivers and provides you with the most spectacular lake and mountain vistas in the Queenstown regions many of which are only available by bike. This is a really great day and offers lot's of flexibility for everyone in our group to ride as much or as little as they like. E-bikes are also available for this ride!
We finish off our tour with an iconic and world famous jet boating ride through the spectacular Shotover Canyons. The jet boat is a great kiwi invention and this ride will see us screaming through narrow canyons whilst doing 360 degree spins. This activity helped put Queenstown on the map as the adventure capital of the world so what better way to end an incredible 10 days of New Zealand adventure.

This 10 day adrenaline tour with Adventure Junkies was everything I hoped it would be, and is a really good price for what’s included.
Our guide Ryan is a NZ local who has a wealth of experience touring and guiding, and is also just an awesome guy.
The greatest thing about this tour is the flexibility, which really allows for a personalised experience. For example, we were able to move our skydiving, rock climbing and Bungy jump around on the fly to coincide with better weather. This also allowed us a bonus free day to do an activity of our choosing, which Ryan was very helpful in coordinating so everyone got to do what they wanted.
The included meals were also great, we got taken to loads of local cafes and restaurants and were allowed to pick whatever we wanted from the menu, & if we wanted to go back the next day or go somewhere in particular, Ryan was able to facilitate this, even as far as the group being split up on our free day so we all got our included meals.
I should also mention that all of the activity providers that Adventure Junkies work with to make this tour possible are the best of the best, we never had any problems at all.

Our 10-day South Island Adrenaline Tour with Adventure Junkies was everything we hoped for, and so much more. From my pre-tour communications with Russ (the company owner), to the well-planned and perfectly-executed itinerary, to the included meals at all the best breakfast and lunch spots, to the best tour guide ever Ryan, to the amazing adventures and adrenaline activities - this trip totally exceeded my high expectations. Both Russ and Ryan do everything they can to ensure that all participants have the time of their lives. And we did! Words cannot describe how amazing it was to be on the Adrenaline Junkies tour in New Zealand. From the booking progress, the follow ups leading up to the trip, to the daily check in’s from Russ. He truly is amazing at what he does and his effort and care to booking activities that you want to do while you’re over in NZ is next to perfect. The tour is extreeeeemmly well priced and grantees a great bang for your buck!
The tour itself is jam packed full of laughs, adrenaline gripping activities and beautiful food. It is 100% a tour you can do by yourself, with a partner or your family.
We had the pleasure of having Ryan as our tour guide. WOW, was he full of knowledge and kindness(with the occasional dad joke). He truly did make this trip to NZ run so smoothly and showed us places that no other tour would even think about travelling. His recommendations from food, travel, activities and of course card games really made the trip a once in a life time experience.

Greeted by an amazing tour guide Russ, who treated us like his best mates! All details of our trip planned and booked and all we had to do was enjoy the ride.
From the banger playlists for the drive, to Russ telling stories or facts about where we were, the constant banter, amazing activities from sky diving, oxbow adventure co and bungee jumping - this trip was truly something else.
Russ showed us many hidden gems and knew all the good spots for food, drinks and a few games of pool.
I couldn’t recommend an adventure junkies trip nor Russ more highly.

My experience with Adventure Junkies was phenomenal - I cannot recommend Russ and his team highly enough!
My sister and I did the 10 Day NZ Adrenalin Tour from Christchurch to Queenstown in October 2023 and everything about the trip was amazing from the small group (4 people), to the witty banter and amazing sights. If you are a thrill seeker, the Adrenalin Tour is for you -the itinerary was packed with awesome activities (including zip lining, bungy jumping and sky diving) but was balanced with a few free afternoons to explore along the way.
There were a few minor changes to our itinerary due to the weather and maintenance works, however this was navigated seamlessly and the alternative activities were just as awesome (I particularly enjoyed the white water rafting substitute of river kayaking).
We were fortunate to have Russ as our guide who is both an awesome guide and lovely human. He was very relaxed and friendly and went out of his way to ensure we had a great time by providing advice and recommendations including on the best places to grab dinner (breakfast and lunch are included!) and sharing his inside knowledge on the best local attractions and photo opportunities! He is also very knowledgeable about New Zealand and enhanced our experience by providing a range of commentary on the various cultural, historical and geological/geographic features of our travels.
I can't wait to head back to New Zealand for my next Adrenalin Junkies trip!
The adrenaline tour was the best thing I’ve ever done! Our tour guide Russ is an absolute legend and has put together a trip everyone has to do at least once.
Everything from the activities, accommodation, awesome little food spots and quality chat was 11 out of 10! Even his playlist was awesome while we were cruising through the amazing South Island.
I can’t recommend the trip enough and would do it again in a heart beat!
